Stanford Youth Diabetes Coaches Program (SYDCP)

Health Care Professionals Teach High School Students

 
  • Designed to support youth from populations who are medically underserved.
  • Validated curriculum proven effective (See Publications).
  • Health care professionals train high school students to coach family members with diabetes or other chronic illnesses.
  • Highly structured 8-week course meets once a week for an hour and trains adolescents to become diabetes self-management coaches.
  • Course content:
    • Health knowledge
    • Communication skills
    • Problem solving
    • Coaching skills with an emphasis on action planning
  • Can be offered in-person or virtually.
